DESCRIPTION: Length up to 22mm. A large Mayfly with large black venated wings and three long dark tails. The body is creamy yellow with distinctive brown markings on the segments. The last three segments are more brownish. BEHAVIOUR: Males can be found swarming throughout the day until dusk. Once females have mated they fly upstream, lay numerous eggs into the water and unfortunately die. DISTRIBUTION: Common throughout. HABITAT: Found along unpolluted rivers and around lakes. PERIOD: Adults are found April to September. |
